Internet Marketing 101

March 28th, 2003

Hey gang;

Last week I discussed networking and how it can help your business.

Now let's look at teleseminars, teleconferences, webcasts or whatever the heck you want to call them.

I'm sure many of you have noticed how many of them are popping up.

Should you take advantage of them? Certainly I think so.

Let's look at the advantages of a teleseminar.

First, most of them are cheap, in fact many are free except for the cost of your phone call. Sure some of the free ones are trying to soft sell you a higher priced product, but don't think you won't get any useful content from the event. Most provide a lot of great examples, real time scenarios, and ideas before leading up to the soft sell promo.

Second, there is no travel involved, no motel costs, no food costs and you can attend from the comfort of your own home. Do I need to say more?

Third, listening to the speakers gives you even more of a feel for their energy and enthusiasm. Plus the interaction from the other speakers or hosts. Enthusiasm can be infectious and spread. If one of these events gets you to "take action" then that in itself is worth the cost. Many times failure for the beginning marketer is a lack of ever taking action.

(Time for a ramble now)
You know there are these people out there that instead of taking action, they sit around looking for the perfect opportunity. "Duh, let's see, nope this one is not for me, nope, duhhh, not this one either". They jump from one promo to the next NEVER deciding on any specific product.

Hey let me tell you folks (geessh I hate to burst your bubble), THERE IS NO PERFECT opportunity. The only perfect opportunity is one that YOU feel confident in, you know about the product, and you can market it knowing the company stands behind it. And then it is only a possible perfect opportunity if you do something with it.

There is no perfect time to start either, there is no perfect "I have to get everything just perfect before starting either", if you use these excuses to delay your marketing efforts, then hey I'm sorry but you probably will never achieve success.

Several years back when I started a previous online business (that generated huge sales over a 3 year period I might add), I constructed a somewhat elementary looking and simple website to sell my new product.

I threw it up literally and figured I would tweak and refine it as time allowed. My main concern however was to get the product up and start promoting it, in other words I TOOK ACTION.

Ironically 3 1/2 years later when I sold the business the website looked the same. The business kept growing and I never did refine the design of the site. My point is that I didn't wait until I felt I had my site looking perfect. I took action. The result was over a million dollars worth of revenue in a 3 year period!

OK, so I guess you get my point, I'll get off my soapbox.
(End ramble)

Anyway, I have derived a wealth of ideas from attending several teleseminars lately. Remember only one little tid bit of information or idea can be worth many times the cost of the teleseminar.

Things to consider when looking for teleseminars:

How much does it cost? If it's only the cost of a phone call (read FREE teleseminar) then unless the call is to another country, it shouldn't run you over $6 or $7 bucks at the most. Would you pay $6 or $7 dollars for an idea if it would generate just ten times that much. Go figure.

Do you get a copy of the event? If the event does cost you, plus the call as well, then check to see if you get a copy of the event or if it will be posted online for listening to later. One reason for this is if something happens and you can't make the call, then you can listen to it later.

Do you pay for the call or is it a webcast? Obviously if you live out of the country from where the call takes place then it could be very expensive, so you might not be able to justify the event. However, check to see if it is via a webcast. If so then the call may be entirely free.

Do you get resell rights? This is a great way to get a product to sell plus learn from the event at the same time. Some of these events provide resell rights to the teleseminar files as well after it's been held.

Teleseminar Notes For Success:

1. If you get the opportunity to submit questions then do so, be sure and mention your name, and your website. What this does is of course get you free exposure, PLUS it plants your name and site in the mind of the speakers of the event.

2. Don't just jump on the line and listen. Be prepared. Have a notebook and pen ready when listening. Write down any thoughts, I repeat ANY thoughts that spark your interest or make you have a "light bulb" moment.

3. After the teleseminar, immediately review your notes and write down additional comments to the thoughts you jotted down. Try to think out how they can relate to your present situation and business. Make additional notes on how you can use them. TRY to review these notes right before you go to bed as well.

4. The next day get out your notes and review them, write down any additional thoughts that you might now have. You might be amazed at the additional thoughts that come to mind after sleeping on it for a night.

5. Now take ACTION! Don't just put your notes away. Start incorporating them into you business plan and daily action list. Don't try to implement them all at once. Maybe just take one a day, or even one a week and start implementing it.

6. Ok, last but not least, if there were any speakers you really want to contact, then email them. Be sure to put in the subject line "Hi Gary Knuckles here, about last night's teleseminar..." then tell them how much you enjoyed the seminar and what you derived from their comments. This relates back to last weeks newsletter of networking, you are striving to develop a relationship with the person.

Now on another note before I close, I would like to mention a new program that I hope to implement by the next issue. It's a software program designed by Paul Myers of TalkBiz.com fame.

Below is an excerpt from Paul's new site at Newsmon.com

"Readers: Get the information you want, on time, every time. Get it in one place, in an easy to read (or watch, or listen to) format, without having to give your email address to strangers. And without your ISP deciding what you can and can't read! And it's completely free.

Publishers: Puts an end to delivery problems, bogus spam complaints, and expensive and difficult to use technologies. Get your message to the people who want it."

Hey folks, this means now you can be sure to receive your newsletters that you enjoy reading without the spam filters intervening. That is for those publishers that choose to offer it to their subscribers. I don't know why they wouldn't, geessshh, it's getting terrible with the spam filters.

But that's another subject for another day. Anyway Newsmon doesn't prevent ezine publishers from still sending out their publications through the normal means either. It's just another tool that will enable them to better serve their subscribers.

Check it out at: http://www.newsmon.com

See ya'll next week, same day, same place!
